Themed tour: Textiles in the collections of Skokloster Castle

Woven wallpapers - beautiful and warming! The latest fashion in the 17th century was woven wallpapers with pictorial motifs. They were very expensive and were placed in the most prestigious rooms. Most wallpapers are part of suites where several wallpapers together tell a story, for example from the Bible or about the life of Alexander the Great. See several of the castle's beautifully woven wallpapers and listen to the story behind them.
A large and well-stocked linen store was a natural part of a 17th century castle environment. We also open the doors to the linen cupboards, where the linen is white, shiny, folded and placed in stacks. Tablecloths and napkins for the table, sheets and pillowcases for the bed, and towels galore. There is linen from the 17th century to the beginning of the 20th century, purchased by the castle's various owners. The linen store contains exclusive linen damask but also everyday linen in simpler techniques and qualities.
