If you want to experience how tasty and fine a chicken can taste, then Hagby Gårdsfågel can be an interesting alternative. Here, chickens are allowed to grow at a natural pace with free access to move in and out. The result is a big juicy chicken that is appreciated by both chefs and consumers.
Just outside Enköping is Hagby Farm, which has been raising small-scale birds since 2002. Jenny Lundgren and her husband Sven-Åke have a clear vision for their business, and that is to guarantee quality and ethics from start to finish.
The farm has several chicken houses that can accommodate 600 chickens. The chickens have large areas to move around in and have the opportunity to go outside when the weather permits. There is no light-controlled circadian rhythm, which gives the chickens a more natural approach to food. They live an average of 65 days and are allowed to grow at a natural rate. With plenty of space to move around, the chickens build up more muscle to support their bodies. The feed consists of grain from the farm and purchased vegetable feed from Mälardalen.
Hagby Farm has its own, controlled slaughterhouse located on the farm. Each chicken is treated with great respect and always handled with two hands at every stage. The farm takes care of the entire process, from day-old chicken to cut and packaged product. This means they have full control over the entire chain and can guarantee good quality and ethics from start to finish.
The slower growth and the natural environment result in meat that has time to develop a good fat content and a more developed flavor. A taste experience for those who appreciate a high quality raw material. With more time to grow, the birds also get bigger - Hagby Farm's roosters can weigh up to four kilos, while the chickens are usually 2-2.5 kilos.
In addition to farm-raised chicken, duck, goose and turkey are available in season. There is also a range of processed chicken products such as cheesy chicken burgers and different types of sausages.
Hagby Farm's products can be bought directly at the farm or in selected grocery stores in Mälardalen. At Brobergs mat you can order Hagby farm bird products, and likewise at various REKO rings.
