Hjälstaviken

A bird watchers paradise

The nature reserve Hjälstaviken is one of Sweden's finest bird lakes. Here you can see the bird all year round, with peaks in the migration times during spring and autumn. The shallow and sprawling lake attracts lots of birds, as many as 265 species have been observed at the lake. At Hårby, on the west side of the lake, there is a bird tower. You got there via a kilometer-long path that is handicap accessible. From Kvarnberget you can wander along the slopes to a large hide in the reeds.

Hjälstaviken also offers nature experiences of other kinds. From the hill ”Kvarnberget” on the east side you have a wide view both over the lake and the surrounding agricultural landscape. Anemones of all kinds are abundant in the ”Parnassen” area and the rich spring blossoming is an attraction in itself. You can walk from Kvarnberget to Parnassen along a stepped path through the reeds. It's a very special experience!

Go birding close to Stockholm

Hjälstaviken is a high class nature experience, where narrow bridges lead you to the center of the lake – near the birds but also closer to nature. An 8 km trail leads around the whole lake and takes you through flowering fields and over wet meadows.

Hungry? You’re only a few kilometers from a genuine Swedish Fika at local bakery and café Sussi's farm bakery.
