Sparrsätra church dates from the early 14th century, but there was an older wooden church on the site. There are several objects in the church that belong to the older wooden church, including a baptismal font from the 12th century. The gables of the church have striking white decorative fields, known as blind rings, and the roof is covered with wood shavings.
A battle was fought near the church in 1247, in which different tribes fought for royal power in Sweden. The Battle of Sparrsätra is mentioned in several medieval chronicles. The Skänningeannals state: "This year the common people of Uppland lost their victory and their freedom at Sparrsäter, and a grain tax, shipwreck and several burdens were imposed on them".
