De oudste delen van de kerk van Tillinge dateren uit de 13e eeuw, maar zijn vele malen verbouwd. Het huidige uiterlijk van de kerk is grotendeels het resultaat van een verbouwing halverwege de 18e eeuw. De vergulde haan op de kerktoren speelt een belangrijke rol in de roman \u201dTorntuppen\u201d van de arbeidersschrijver Jan Frideg\u00e5rd <\/em>(1897-1968).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tussen de twee poorten aan de westkant van de toren staat een runensteen. De rune-lus is gedeeltelijk verwoest, omdat de steen lange tijd dienst deed als funderingssteen van de kerk. De steen werd in de jaren 1940 verwijderd en op zijn huidige plek geplaatst. De runenlijn vertelt ons dat de steen werd opgericht ter nagedachtenis aan Gudmund, die in S\u00e4rkland was gestorven. S\u00e4rkland was de naam van de noorderlingen voor een gebied aan de Kaspische Zee dat werd geregeerd door de kalief van Bagdad. Vifast (liet) deze steen oprichten naar Gudmund, zijn broer. Hij werd gedood in S\u00e4rkland. God helpe zijn geest.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Aan de voet van de runesteen ligt een grafblok. Grafstenen zijn ronde versierde stenen die in het midden van graven werden geplaatst, vooral in de 5e eeuw. Ze worden meestal gevonden op vrouwengraven en men denkt dat ze een speciale rituele betekenis hadden.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
