Misschien herken je hem wel, het origineel staat tegenwoordig in het Historisch Museum in Stockholm, terwijl een kopie in H\u00e4ggeby te zien is. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>De steen is gemaakt van rode zandsteen en werd lange tijd gebruikt als vloersteen in de kerk. In de jaren 1870 werd hij verwijderd en verkocht aan het Historisch Museum. De kopie, uit 1953, ligt nu op het kerkhof tussen het portaal en de toren.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>De steen dateert uit ongeveer 400-500 na Christus en toont aan de ene kant een slank schip dat wordt voortgestuwd door twaalf roeiers. Aan de andere kant wordt een hengst bereden. Paardengevechten waren een populair onderdeel van grote bijeenkomsten en festiviteiten in de prehistorie. Wedden was zeker een essentieel onderdeel van het plezier. De hengsten werden aangezet om hun agressie op elkaar te richten zodat er een bloedig gevecht ontstond, vaak met dodelijke afloop.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>De omgeving van de H\u00e4ggeby kerk doet denken aan Bullerbyn. Op een steenworp afstand van de kerk staat het oude schooltje, dat nu het schoolmuseum van de plaatselijke buurtvereniging is.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-jetpack-tiled-gallery aligncenter
