Kokkola town hall<\/strong> you can't miss when traveling along the RV70. The yellow-plastered house with a hipped roof crowned by a bell tower was commissioned for the Winter Parliament in 1688. For two centuries it was used for trials and there was also a dungeon in the basement of the house. Among other things, it was stored there Elk-Cajsa<\/a><\/em>, the last to be sentenced to death in the courthouse. She mixed arsenic in the bread and poisoned both husband, mother and daughter. In June 1839, she was beheaded at the execution site in B\u00e4rby forest, half a mile away in the direction of the Salah\u00e5llet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The cut-in marble display above the entrance is reminiscent of the house's previous use. It is in Latin, but it means Do the right thing and fear no one<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Today, Karleby Tingshus is used as a gathering room for Simtuna Hembygdsf\u00f6rening, which usually has coffee serving and crafts exhibition during the summer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
