On the top of Kyrk\u00e5sen in Enk\u00f6ping stands V\u00e5rfrukyrkan. It has done so for 900 years and is thus one of the oldest churches in Sweden. In 2025, the 900th anniversary was celebrated because, according to tradition, the church was inaugurated on Spring Day, March 25, 1125. At that time, it was the church of the dean of Fj\u00e4drundaland.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Like most churches, it has been rebuilt and added to on many different occasions. The paintings in the arches and on the walls inside the church were done in 1903-04 by Carl Wilhelm Pettersson, but you can see that medieval paintings were the main source of inspiration. Look a little extra at the masonry archers, which seem to support the arches. These occur from time to time in medieval churches.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Up on Kyrk\u00e5sen, V\u00e5rfrukyrkan watches over the people of Enk\u00f6ping.
