The oldest parts of Tillinge Church date from the 13th century, but have been rebuilt many times. The church's current appearance is largely the result of a rebuilding in the mid-18th century. The gilded rooster on the church tower plays an important role in the novel \"Torntuppen\" by the working-class author Jan Frideg\u00e5rd <\/em>(1897-1968).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Between the two gates on the west side of the tower stands a rune stone. The runic loop is partially destroyed, as the stone long served as a foundation stone of the church. The stone was removed in the 1940s and placed in its current location. The rune line tells us that the stone was erected in memory of Gudmund, who had died in S\u00e4rkland. S\u00e4rkland was the northerners' name for an area on the Caspian Sea ruled by the Caliph of Baghdad. Vifast (had) this stone erected after Gudmund, his brother. He was killed in S\u00e4rkland. God help his spirit.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

At the foot of the rune stone is a grave block. Grave stones are round decorated stones that were placed in the center of graves, especially in the 5th century. They are usually found on women's graves and are thought to have had a special ritual significance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
