Unless passers-by throw a stick at the pile, both the exciting story and the pile itself would eventually disappear.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>M\u00e5ngelskh\u00f6gen is a memorial site of the more unusual kind. On the site, once long ago, a murder took place. To prevent the dead man from walking again and to protect himself from accidents, passers-by began to throw a dry twig or branch on the site. Soon it became a big pile. The custom is called sacrificial throwing and used to be practiced in many places around Sweden where someone had died a sudden or unnatural death. Sometimes twigs were thrown, other times coins or stones. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Today M\u00e5ngelskh\u00f6gen is located on a quiet forest road, but the road has a history as a well-used highway called Tingsv\u00e4gen. Two moonshiners once met here on their way from the market. (A moonshiner was a tradeswoman who carried her wares on her back.)
