Around Bj\u00f6rksta church, in the vicinity of Sag\u00e5n, there are several places with exciting rock carvings to visit. Start at the church, where there is a nice rock with carved images, but also information signs and a map to take with you that shows the way to the other places.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

About 3000 years ago, when the rock carvings were made, things looked quite different at Bj\u00f6rksta church compared to today. Then the area was an archipelago landscape, and the images were carved into rocks near the shore. The motifs are often ships. Boats were used on a daily basis, they were by far the best means of transportation, but the images of ships also had a symbolic meaning; with the ships the journey went to the next world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In total, there are six different sites to visit. At several of them there are walking paths between different carved rocks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
