Just a stone's throw away is a tall and narrow rune stone with a long and intriguing inscription.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It bears witness to one of the great tragedies of the Viking Age - the Ingvar Train in 1040 when 700 men on 30 ships set out on a journey to the east. The expedition ended abruptly in present-day Georgia and almost no one returned home.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There are more than twenty rune stones in M\u00e4lardalen that tell of the fateful journey. The rune stone in Varpsund is erected over Gunnlev, who \"could well steer the Knarr\". Knarr was a large seagoing merchant ship with spacious cargo holds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-jetpack-tiled-gallery aligncenter is-style-rectangular\"><div
