Vattun\u00f6dsberget, with its softly polished rocks, bonsai-like knotty pines and lovely views of Lake M\u00e4laren, is the center of the Kalmarn\u00e4slandet nature reserve. There is a 500 meter long path from the parking lot and there is a nice barbecue area with a view. The cliffs plunge steeply towards the water, perhaps not a place to take small children with running legs, but for slightly older children it is a wonderful and adventurous area. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The reserve is large, so you can wander off along the cliffs or take a woodland walk in the enchanted forest within the shoreline. There are big gnarled oaks and large stands of hazel bushes. In the past, grazing animals were kept in the forest. The grazing made the forest light and open, and today efforts are being made to maintain and recreate this type of environment, including the planting of 2000 oak saplings. They have been fenced in with small cages to protect them from gnawing deer, elk and hares.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Birdwatching is a great activity at the cliffs of Kalmarn\u00e4slandet. Here you can see ospreys and nearly 90 other species that breed in the area. But it's also great to just sit down on a sun-warmed rock and enjoy!<\/p>\n\n\n\n
