The guide Elisabet receives at Kaplanen. She tells the story of how an innovative city gardener came to town, started and pushed through the transformation that has today become Enköping's major tourist attraction. She talks about how plants are combined to create different rooms and environments. About how perennials are used in large areas throughout the city, in parks, in roundabouts, along streets and in squares. The walk goes through one of the smaller pocket parks and to one of the larger parks. The guide ends in Drömparken, created by Piet Oudolf, who is known for his spectacular compositions with tall and colorful perennials. His most famous works besides Dream Park in Enköping are, The Millennium Park in Chicago, The Battery Park and The High Line Park in New York.
Lunch is eaten outdoors in Drömparken. There's Happy Foodtruck run by Helena. She thinks that good organic ingredients and locally grown mean everything when it comes to food. In the Food Truck, you order an absolutely fantastic organic hamburger with all the goodies that belong to it. Of course, you can also choose a vegetarian option. As an alternative, there is also an Asian salad. You order your own food so you know you get it just as fresh and freshly cooked as possible. Sit down around one of the tables on display on the lawn and enjoy the splendor of flowers, hop drums and the hopefully beautiful weather.
After lunch you have your own time! You can choose to stroll around the beautiful green environments or continue on the town for a little shopping spree.
Around Stora torget and on the surrounding streets there are many small personal shops. There is plenty of time to visit some of them. Do not miss Fröken Röd, Karin Sömmare, Pepparrotsstadens Trädgård & Hantverk, Delikatessbutiken SMAK, Gestbloms bokhandel and Fabian Flinks Brödbod.
If you choose to discover more of the parks, a trip on the Åpromenaden is recommended. There you can experience as much park and garden as you like! Along the promenade there are 18 idea gardens, here you will find, among other things, the Gardeners' Education's Theme Gardens, with a new theme every year. One year more spectacular than the other. Here it flows from the creativity of young gardening students! There is also a lot of public art along the Åpromenaden.
In the afternoon, a visit to Westerlundska gården awaits. Welcome to Enköpingsdoctor Dr. Ernst Westerlund and his family. He lived and worked in this house from 1876 until his death in 1924. The Enköpings doctor was well known throughout the country and also in many other parts of the world. There were rumors about the doctor curing what others were bitten by, much because he was a particularly good diagnostician and humanist. The day ends with afternoon coffee in the doctor's garden.
