At the southwest corner of Ängsön, on the shores of Lake Mälaren, you'll find Ängsö Fisk, a traditional and sustainable commercial fishery. There is a fish shop selling fresh and smoked fish and an unmanned self-service fish kiosk. Some of the catch is processed in their own smokehouse.
Ängsö Fisk is a wonderful destination, because here you can not only buy fish, but also enjoy a good lunch or coffee. Adjacent to the fish shop is Fiskarfruns café, which is open during the summer season. They serve dishes made with their own smoked fish, vegetarian options and simple dishes such as pancakes and ice cream. Home-made cakes are often served with coffee. The café has full rights and in collaboration with Hantverksbryggeriet in Västerås, Ängsö Fisk has developed the beer Ängsö ljus lager, which can be enjoyed on site. It is also available for purchase at Systembolaget.
Per Vidlund is a fifth-generation fisherman in Lake Mälaren and started his business in 1979, aged just 16. Together with his wife Pauline, he runs Ängsö Fisk. They fish all year round in a small part of Lake Mälaren on leased fishing waters. They work for sustainable fishing so that smaller, undersized fish can swim out of the gear and grow to strengthen the fish stocks.
The range includes pikeperch, pike, perch, vendace, burbot and bream, depending on the season and availability. In the walled smokehouse, some of the fish is smoked in the traditional way with alder wood.
If you have your own boat, you can moor at the pier to visit the fish shop or café.
The fish shop is open during certain periods of the year and the current opening hours are published on the website and social media. The unmanned fish kiosk is open daily from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. It is also possible to order from the current range for pick-up.
